There’s a new Christmas dating trend on the block in 2024, and – unfortunately – it’s another one you absolutely don’t want.

The good news is, if you’re in the know you can at least watch out for it and be able to spot it when it comes – instead of taking it personally.

After all, none of these crappy dating trends are anything to take PERSONALLY. It’s just something that people often happen to do… It’s no reflection on you.

And I know, I know, this is easier said than done. There’s only so many knocks you can take when dating, right? It feels like you have to get thicker and thicker skin, every damn month…

But it’s worth it, trust me. These dating trends may be tough, but you are tougher. And when you find that special person, they will soon become a distant memory.

In the meantime, it’s time to swat up and prepare yourself! 💪 So, what’s going down in the dating world this season? Well, allow us to introduce you…

The New Christmas Dating Trend To Watch Out For This Year

So, what is the latest Christmas dating trend you should be aware of in 2024? Well, my friends, it’s called “scrooging” and yes, it is as bad as it sounds.

Scrooging is when the person you’re seeing breaks up with you around the festive period so they don’t have to spend big on a Christmas present.

I know, it sounds crazy writing it, let alone reading it back. And yes, the term is named after Ebenezer Scrooge – the grumpy Christmas-hating character from Charles Dickens’s, A Christmas Carol!

Why People Actually Do It

Now, I know what you’re thinking –“why would people even bother doing that?! I mean, is it really worth ending everything, just to save a few dimes or pennies?!”

Well, you wouldn’t think so, right? But the chances are it’s just an excuse.

Whether they just don’t think you’re right for each other and so don’t want to spend their money, or they have commitment issues so are running when things start to feel more serious – either way, it’s not the right way to treat a person…

Scrooging ultimately suggests that the person you were dating has been way too chicken to be honest with you, and / or is just downright tight.

So ironically – if you find someone who “scrooges” you this Christmas, it can actually end up being a bit of a gift; a blessing in disguise.

After all, now you know where you stand and know that they’re not really worth putting your time and energy into…

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – it says more about them than you and actually, it’s quite embarrassing on their part, really!

So, Screw The “Scrooges” This Christmas (Not Literally, Of Course!)

If you get “scrooged” when dating this Christmas, please try not to let it get you down.

It’s just another new crappy Christmas dating trend, but it’s no reflection on you.

So hold your head up high, get yourself back out there and don’t you EVER give up on love, my friends. 🫶

In fact, take positive action right now…
