Couples take note! Gary Chapman may be best known for writing “The Five Love Languages”, but there’s another book on the block that is – arguably – EVEN BETTER! That’s right, this hidden Gary Chapman’s marriage book is a must read and it’s seriously not spoken about enough!

Who Is Gary Chapman?

So first off, who is Gary Chapman? Well for those who may not know – he is an American author, radio talk show host and specialist in human relationships.

He is best known for writing the New York Times Best-Seller, The Five Love Languages, which we explained and explored when discussing the different types of love languages.

But did you know that Gary Chapman has actually published over 360 different books?!

From loving your spouse when you feel like walking away to building a family that lasts, the list goes on and on.

What Is Gary Chapman’s Marriage Book?

Now, amongst all of his books, Gary Chapman has a number of marriage books. We won’t list them all here, but you can click here for the full list if you’re interested.

The book that I recently read and think is SERIOUSLY UNDER-RATED however, is: Things I Wish I’d Known Before We Got Married.

You can actually listen to this FOR FREE with a free Audible trial. It’s how I get through so many books every month!

What Is It About?

Well hey, here’s the blurb for you:

“Most people spend far more time in preparation for their vocation than they do in preparation for marriage,” No wonder the divorce rate hovers around fifty percent.

Bestselling author and marriage counselor, Gary Chapman, hopes to change that with his newest book. Gary, with more than 35 years of counseling couples, believes that divorce is the lack of preparation for marriage and the failure to learn the skills of working together as intimate teammates.

So he put together this practical little book, packed with wisdom and tips that will help many develop the loving, supportive and mutually beneficial marriage men and women long for. It’s the type of information Gary himself wished he had before he got married.

This is not a book simply to be read. It is a book to be experienced. The material lends itself to heart-felt discussions by dating or engaged couples. To jump-start the exchanges, each short chapter includes insightful “Talking it Over” questions and suggestions. And, the book includes information on interactive websites as well as books that will enhance the couples experience.

Dr. Chapman even includes a thought-provoking appendix. By understanding and balancing the five key aspects of life, dating couples can experience a healthy dating relationship. A revealing learning exercise for dating couples is included at the end.

What Makes It So Great?

Without giving too much away about it, and revealing any spoilers – Gary Chapman’s marriage book – in my opinion – is especially great, because it brings the real-talk back into relationships.

He explains that love alone, is not a sufficient foundation on which to build a successful marriage.

Marriage takes work, but if you put the time in beforehand, and go into it fully prepared – you’re in a far stronger position to (genuinely) make it last a lifetime.

“How soon is too soon to propose?!” – Well it’s too soon if you haven’t read this, I say! 😉

Gary Chapman is a real specialist in his field, and it was powerful to hear the anecdotes from his life and why he personally wishes he knew these things before getting married – plus, what he would do if he could go back, based on his decades of knowledge now.
